Started in 2004, the Summer Reading Program funds the Whittier Public Library to help promote literacy and the love of reading in children. The Library plans the Summer Reading Club’s themes, requirements and activities. Assistance League® of Whittier committee members assist library staff and attend special events throughout the summer.
Members assist at the summer-end picnic event at Parnell Park in Whittier.
Assistance League® of Whittier also donates $8,000 to the summer reading program to provide incentive entertainment and activities for the over 300 participants
